Transient ischemic attacks (TIA), commonly known as “mini-strokes,” are often viewed as the medical overture to a full-blown stroke and other related health problems. Recurrent TIAs can cause loss of memory and communication skills, but according to Dr. Tommie R. Dahlmann, they do not have to be viewed as inexorable downhill skids to an inevitable end – progressive brain damage with its attendant cognitive, motor and emotional limitations.
Neither should they be seen as “things that should be expected,” simply because “you are getting older.”
Dr. Dahlmann, through her personal experience and medical knowledge regarding recurrent mini-strokes, aims to bring hope in recovery to those who have experienced them, and educate those who wish to prevent them.
About Dr Dahlmann:
Tommie R. Dahlmann, ND(US), NMD(EU), CEDS, LCDC, AAC is a Naturopathic Doctor, a European Union Certified Natural Medicine Doctor, a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist and a Texas-licensed and board-certified addictions counselor. She began counseling in 1976 and formally became a naturopathic doctor in 2001.
In the 70’s Dr. Dahlmann was the executive director of an out-patient drug/alcohol treatment program for adolescents and their families. In addition, she performed interventions and intervention training for an in-patient treatment program. She established and directed an office, for a national treatment organization specializing in the diseases of addiction that was headed by doctors that were doing some pioneering research.
In the early 80’s Dr. Dahlmann reorganized and developed treatment programs, and was executive director of a halfway house for women with alcohol/drug problems. She went into private practice in 1984, and, soon after, established Dahlmann and Associates, one of the first wellness centers in the San Antonio, Texas area. The center treated body, mind and spirit, and was active in research with Dr. Kenneth Blum through the Division of Addictive Diseases in the Department of Pharmacology of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. The research looked at the physical reasons, causes and treatments for addictions. In addition, Dahlmann and Associates offered specialists in various fields of counseling, plus Rolfing, massage therapy, and medical exams.
Dr. Dahlmann has traveled the world studying treatment methods for health and well being. Hence, she has instituted programs and techniques that help people understand the physical as well as the psychological aspects of their dis-ease. She feels the patient must first have the nutritional (physiological/metabolic) foundation before they are able to make the psychological changes they want. Than she teaches patients fast, easy ways of discovering negative beliefs that can get in the way of growth and healing and can keep them in physical as well as mental pain. “We are what we eat and we are what we think and our mind is our servant, not our master.”
Since supposedly retiring in 2003, she and her husband have traveled and taught, and just enjoyed the freedom to go and work wherever they are invited. Although Dr. Dahlmann leads workshops on many topics for both professional and lay participants plus provides consulting for businesses, she truly enjoys working one-on-one or with small groups.
She and her husband have established a practice in Tulsa; the European Natural Health Center, and are really enjoying this adventure. “Whenever God opens a door we walk through and are usually amazed and delighted with what awaits us. We get to meet wonderful people and use the knowledge we have accumulated”.
